Man charged in murder probe of British spy in Ireland

LONDON: A man has been charged in connection to the murder of Denis Donaldson, a former British spy killed in Ireland in 2006, Irish police said on Thursday.
The latest development in the investigation comes a decade after Donaldson was shot, following his being outed as a former British secret service agent.
The man in his 70s charged in connection to the murder appeared at a Dublin court to face charges, police said without specifying the accusations against him.
He was arrested on Tuesday along with another man, in his 40s, who police said was released without charge.
Donaldson's body was found in April 2006 at his home in the rural village of Glenties in north west Ireland.
He had previously served as a senior party official in Sinn Fein, formerly the political wing of the IRA.
Months before his death, Donaldson's former life as a spy was made public, revealing he spent 20 years spying on Sinn Fein for British intelligence. — AFP
