BATU PAHAT: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin (pix) today verified that his vice chief Khairul Azwan Harun lodged the police report, claiming conspiracy by certain quarters to topple the prime minister, in his personal capacity.

"The youth vice chief lodged the report as an individual," he told reporters who asked him about Khairul Azwan's police report.

Earlier, Khairy who is also Youth and Sports Minister launched Johor Phase II FITMalaysia at Batu Pahat Stadium here.

He said Khairul Azwan had also explained that he made the report based on information he had, which he also shared with police in a statement.

"We leave it to the police to conduct an investigation; as what the prime minister had said, the police report was made (by Khairul Azwan) as an individual."
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said Khairul Azwan acted in his personal capacity and not for the party when lodging the police report and that it was the Umno Youth vice chief's right to do so.

Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was reported as saying that Khairul Azwan's statement was taken at Bukit Aman police headquarters yesterday morning and investigations were being conducted.

On Tuesday, Khairul Azwan lodged a report against former Attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz and outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, alleging conspiracy by the three to topple Najib and the Malaysian Government. — Bernama
