KANGAR: A total of 98 dengue fever cases were recorded in Perlis from January until July 16, compared to 143 cases during the corresponding period last year.

State Health Department director Dr Zaini Hussin said the decline of 68.5% was due to its school-level awareness programme to combat Aedes mosquitoes via Young Doctors Club (YDC).

"No dengue fever related deaths were recorded during the period," he said in his speech read out by Kampung Gial Clinic medical officer, Dr Ainur Iznita Abdullah at the Parents and Community Involvement Carnival, Anti-Dengue Campaign and the launch of YDC 2016 at SK Oran, Mata Ayer here today.

Also present was Mata Ayer state assemblyman, who is also State Islamic Religion Committee chairman, Khairi Hassan.

Dr Zaini said the dissemination of knowledge, prevention and control of dengue fever among the students were more effective and easier through the YDC.

A total of 900 students from 38 primary schools in Perlis had participated in the YDC since it was established in 2005. — Bernama
