LABUAN: Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today launched the connectivity improvement and economic development projects to accelerate the island's economy in tandem with the country's development progress.
The more than RM20.5 million Kg Gersik By-Pass project, which started in August 2014, spans 1.150km with two carriageways and was completed ahead of schedule.
"The project is aimed at easing the traffic congestion at Jalan Arsat and Jalan Tun Mustapha for the convenience of the people and as part of our efforts to improve the connectivity on the island," Tengku Adnan said at a press conference after opening the by-pass near Saguking here today.
He said the by-pass will provide easy access to the development areas under the jurisdiction of Labuan Corporation (LC) and to the industrial zones in Patau-Patau and Rancha-Rancha.
"It can also be seen as infrastructure networking improvement and logistic for the small and medium industries in Labuan. It will also be able to provide impact to the infrastructure development landscape and socio-economy," he said. — Bernama
