PETALING JAYA: Berjaya China Motor Sdn Bhd, which rolled out the completely knocked down (CKD) version of the Chana Era Star II last week, aims to sell 700 units of the model this year.
Its CEO Datuk Donald Choo said the new Chana Era Star II pickup was introduced in April this year and all 100 completely built up (CBU) units have been sold since then.
“The New Chana Era Star II offers an attractive new look, new 1.2L engine design that produces high power output as the 1.5L engine in its class, bigger and higher loading capacity, and larger cabin space for a more comfortable drive.

“On the whole, the Chana Era Star II vehicle is a practical solution to diverse fields of business owners as the vehicle is known for fuel economy, versatility, functionality and affordability in their day-to-day business needs,” said Choo.
He added that three additional variants were also rolled out to enhance overall sales and offer more choices to customers. The three variants are the Era Star II Double Cabin, Semi Panel Van and Panel Van, all powered by the same engine.
Berjaya China Motor, a subsidiary of Berjaya Group Bhd, was formed in 2014 as the marketing arm for the Changan brand of vehicles.
Besides sales, it also provides after sales service for Changan vehicles in Malaysia. To date, it has 35 sales dealers and 58 authorised service dealers throughout Malaysia.
Founded in 1862, Changan is the largest automobile manufacturer among the Chinese brands and is the top Chinese brand in China with a total of 1.54 million vehicles sold in 2015.
“Chana, the commercial brand of Changan, is no longer new to Malaysian market as we have started selling the Chana Era Star pickup since 2011,” said Choo.
He said over 1,500 units of the first model was sold. Last year, Berjaya China Motor sold 531 units of Chana.
Choo said Changan remains the top Chinese brand in Malaysia, despite more Chinese brands entering the Malaysian market.
