PETALING JAYA: Newly minted Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad has pledged to remain faithful to the trust and mandate given to him to combat corruption in the country.
Quoting a verse from the Quran, which seeks Muslims to not be unfaithful to Allah, his messenger and the trust given, Dzulkifli said this reminder would perpetually be his light and guidance when performing the heavy tasks that await him.
“My appointment is indeed a humbling opportunity for me to continue serving the nation and to carry out my responsibilities as the chief commissioner to the best of my ability, to lead in its mission to spearhead anti-corruption efforts in Malaysia by being fair, firm and trustworthy,” he said in a statement today.
Dzulkifli said he was aware and cautious of the challenges that await him and the high expectation placed upon him.
“Thus, it is my sincere hope that the MACC and I will continue to have the cooperation and support from all parties, in our efforts to eradicate corruption in Malaysia,” he said.
Dzulkifli also thanked his predecessor Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed for his exemplary leadership and contribution to the commission and the nation. He also expressed his gratitude to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on the appointment and the trust bestowed upon him, and to the government for the confidence and trust placed on him.
Dzulkifli yesterday began his term as MACC’s boss, arriving at the commission’s headquarters at 8am. He was welcomed by the commission’s top officials led by deputy commissioner (management and professionalism) Datuk Seri Mohd Jamidan Abdullah.
Prior to his appointment, Dzulkifli served as national revenue recovery enforcement team director in the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa on Friday announced Dzulkifli’s appointment effective Aug 1, 2016 till July 31, 2021.
Abu Kassim would be serving in another capacity, as integrity consultant at the law faculty of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
