KUALA LUMPUR: The Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) will give scholarships or grants and 50% rebates to its borrowers who bring international fame to the country.
Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abdul Muttalib said the move was in appreciation of the excellent achievement of PTPK borrowers including in the Asean Skills Competition (ASC) in 2014 in Hanoi, Vietnam and at the World Skills Competition (WSC) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last year.
"The grant is an encouragement to trainees (borrowers) to be experts in their chosen area and contribute to human resource development in the country," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after representing Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem in officiating an Aidilfitri gathering with PTPK clients here today. Depending on the programme the borrower is taking, the loan amount from PTPK is between RM8,600 and RM24,500.
At the gathering, PTPK borrower Chuah Zi Wen, 21, and Shirene Tan Suh Wei from Kasih Anana Pro Skills Institute who won the gold award at the ASC in Vietnam in 2014 were each awarded scholarships amounting to RM14,400.
Meanwhile, Tan Wern Lee, 23, and Mohd Wijdan Mohd Arif, 23, from the Japan-Malaysia Technical Institute who won the Medallion for Excellence at the WSC in Brazil (2015) were given 50% rebates for their PTPK loans worth RM21,605. – Bernama
