Police to question Namewee following controversial video

GEORGE TOWN : Police will detain singer-director Namewee for questioning upon his return to the country for the controversial music video taken in Penang featuring him and three other individuals allegedly insulting religion.
State police chief Datuk Abdul Gaffar Rajab said Namewee is currently overseas and police will detain him upon his arrival.
He said several police reports were lodged on the video by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and four statements have been recorded thus far.
He said they have also identified the individuals believed to be foreigners but declined to disclose details as investigations were still in progress.
" We have also identified the church involved in the filming , " he said at the handover ceremony of state Narcotics Department chief position from acting DSP Ng Ah Thiam to Supt Maidu Abu Bakar.
Maidu was formerly Malacca Narcotics police chief before taking over a similar posting in the northern state.
Namewee , real name Wee Meng Chee, has been noted for other controversies and his recent four-minute rap video titled "Oh My God!" shows a group of dancing men at various places and in floating mosque in Tanjung Bungah.
On another issue, Abdul Gaffar said they have stepped up security measures at the stadium following the rioting after the Super League match between Penang and Kedah recently.
He said Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) team and police will man during matches to avert such incidences.
