KPKT and TGP Aeronautic signs contract to purchase helicopters

PUTRAJAYA: The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry is buying two Agusta Westland (AW189) helicopters, costing a total of RM201million, for the benefit of the Fire and Rescue Department and other agencies.
Its minister, Tan Sri Noh Omar, said the first of the Italian made helicopters is expected to be delivered by August 2017, and the second by April 2018.
"The helicopters are to be used for firefighting, search and rescue and disaster relief missions nationwide including in Sabah and Sarawak.
"They will also serve as an air ambulance to other agencies such as Health Ministry, National Security Council, Orang Asli Affairs Department and others," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of the contract for the purchase of the helicopters between the ministry and TPG Aeronautic Sdn Bhd (TGP Aeronautic) here today.
The ministry's secretary-general Datuk Mohammad Mantek and TGP Aeronautic director Tengku Ezrique Ezzuddean A Esfandiari signed the agreement.
Also present were the Deputy Minister Datuk Halimah Mohd Sadique and Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim.
