Drop in dengue case between January to June: Health Ministry

    PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry's effort to combat dengue together with the Rakyat seemed to be paying off as there were only 65,618 dengue cases with 147 deaths reported between January 1 and July 30 this year as compared with 70,680 cases and 190 deaths during the same period last year.
    In a statement issued today, the ministry advised the Rakyat not to let their guard down in terms of keeping their houses and surroundings clean.
    "Its only through public cooperation can the disease be contained and controlled," it said, adding that those showing symptoms of the disease should seek immediate medical help instead of delaying the treatment which may result in death.
    The ministry also advised doctors to be cautious and thorough when examining patients and refer those with suspected symptoms to the nearest hospital before they encounter complications which could result in fatality.
    The ministry also identified 93 aedes hotspots in seven states namely - 82 in Selangor, five in Johor, two in Putrajaya/Kuala Lumpur and one each in Perak, Malacca, Kelantan and Sabah.
