Construction company fined for breeding mosquitoes at project site

TELUK INTAN: A construction company was fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate's Court here today for breeding Aedes mosquito at a project site under its supervision.
Superior Elegant Sdn Bhd, represented by its project manager, pleaded guilty to the charge, made under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975.

Magistrate Intan Nurul Farena Zainal Abidin, when meting out the fine, said the court took into consideration the increase in dengue fever cases.

According to the facts of the case, health assistants from the Hilir Perak Health office found five mosquito larvae of the Aedes Albopictus in a PVC pipe during an inspection at the project site of a private school in Teluk Intan on July 8, 2015.

The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer from the Hilir Perak health district office, Kumara Guruparan Nagan, while the company was unrepresented. — Bernama
