KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Umno Liaison Committee will leave it to the party disciplinary board to take action on Kijal State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said (pix) for his recent vociferous criticism of the state party leadership.

Its chairman, Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said this was to ensure every party member who flouted the rules was punished, regardless of status or post in the party.
"We will take action based on party discipline ... if anyone is in the wrong, we will take action. If, say, I am in the wrong, action should also be taken.

"We leave it to the Umno Disciplinary Board to deal with him, if he is in the wrong, he is in the wrong. We, at the state Umno Liaison Committee will send a report to the highest level for action to be taken.

"This is the basis which must be upheld by the party which has principles (like Umno)," he told reporters after attending the Terengganu Inc Hari Raya celebration here today.
Ahmad Razif, who is also Terengganu mentri besar, was commenting on his exhortations to the Umno Supreme Council to sack Ahmad for his criticisms of the state Umno leadership of late.

He noted that prior to this, the state Umno Liaison Committee had lodged reports with the Umno Disciplinary Board against several individuals who reneged on the party in the last general election, and those out to create political instability in the state.

"This is my duty as state Umno Liaison Committee chairman. If we dare not take action, it becomes a double-standard and the belief of other Umno members will be weakened," he said.

On whether such action would threaten the support of party members for him, Ahmad Razif he did not have any problem with the situation because what was crucial was ensuring discipline and the party. — Bernama
