Cutting ties with PAS unhelpful to Opposition: Azmin

SHAH ALAM: Severing political ties with PAS will not help the opposition in its quest to wrest federal power from the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
In stating the above, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the opposition should not be short-sighted in their political strategies.
"The moment you sever ties with any opposition parties, including PAS, it will not help our efforts in bringing changes. We should not be short sighted in deciding our strategy," he told reporters when met after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the state secretariat building here.
The break up of Pakatan Rakyat last year, largely due to internal strife between DAP and PAS, has put the opposition coalition in a tight spot.
Azmin said the opposition must take heed of the recent Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections where BN retained the seats with a bigger majority due to clashes among PAS and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
"I think that is the best option available for us now, by continuing engagements and consultations (with other parties)," he said.
"There are differences (and) we must agree to disagree... I think that is the only way to move forward," he added.
