PAS confident of wresting Terengganu: Iskandar Samad

SHAH ALAM: PAS is confident that the party will once again be able to takeover the administration of Terengganu if a snap election is called in the state.
PAS vice president Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said the party is prepared to face the possibility of snap polls in the east coast state.
"Of course (PAS will contest), especially in Terengganu where Umno is weak and has a split in the party," he said.
"If PAS contested, we would stand a good chance of taking the state back from Umno-Barisan Nasional," he told reporters when met after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the state secretariat building here.
Rumour that snap polls would be called in Terengganu has been making the rounds following recent tension between former Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and his successor Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.
Ahmad, who is believed to be receiving backing from Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib, has targeted Ahmad Razif and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in his speech at an Umno function in Kemaman last Saturday.
BN currently has 17 assemblymen in the 32-seat state legislative assembly, while PAS has 14 and PKR has one seat. A possible departure of Ahmad and Ghazali would result in Terengganu having a hung assembly, which could pave the way for a snap election.
"If an election is called, we will contest... I do not see any problem as we are always prepared," he said.
Meanwhile, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said Ahmad's next action would be the determining factor on whether Terengganu would be dragged into snap polls or not.
He described the situation in Terengganu as "volatile and too critical", and said BN has no choice but to get a new mandate from the public by dissolving the state assembly.
