PETALING JAYA: A down-and-out Nepali who attempted to break into a bank's cash deposit machine (CDM) armed with just a screwdriver was caught by police in USJ Sentral, Subang Jaya yesterday.
The 25-year-old foreigner was just minutes into the crime when Subang Jaya police patrolmen arrived at the Ambank branch after being alerted by a tripped burglar alarm.
Subang Jaya police chief ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari said today the suspect attempted to flee on foot but the policemen apprehended him.
He said the foreigner had managed to pry open the front door of the CDM with the only tool he brought with him - a screwdriver - and that was as far as he got.
He said investigators learnt that the suspect, who came to Malaysia in 2009 as a labourer, had taken a bus to the bank to pull off the theft.
Mohammad Azlin said the suspect told police that he had come to the Klang Valley in 2011 and has since not held a permanent job.
"He did various odd-jobs as and when he was offered. We also have a close-circuit television camera footage retrieved from the bank that showed the man in the act." he said.
