PETALING JAYA: Axiata Group Bhd’s telecommunication infrastructure services arm, edotco, announced the deployment of a carbon fibre structure in the company’s pursuit of establishing innovative telecoms infrastructure in the region.
In a statement yesterday, it said the ground-based carbon fibre tower installed in Taman Tasik Prima, Puchong, Selangor, is the first tower of its kind in Asia.
According to edotco, carbon fibre structures harness the inherent properties of the material to provide unrivalled benefits, including 70% less weight than conventional steel structures, high rigidity, reduced installation time (40% to 50% faster) and high durability.
“These features result in lower total cost of ownership (TCO) of 20%. As edotco gains more experience in the deployment of carbon fibre towers, customisation requirements will lessen, bringing the company closer to its target of 40% in TCO reduction,” it said.
It added that the carbon fibre tower is also a environment-friendly solution as it emits less carbon dioxide during its production process.
Edotco said the next carbon fibre structure to be installed will be a rooftop structure in Bangladesh where it will provide a solution to building constraints.
