Penang police bust drugs syndicate

GEORGE TOWN: Police busted a drug distribution syndicate with the arrest of three people and seizure of drugs, cash and other items, amounting to about RM712,000, here on Sunday.
Penang police narcotics department chief Supt Maidu Abu Bakar said a man and a woman, in their 30s, were detained at house in Tanjung Tokong about 5.30pm that day.
Police also seized various drugs comprising heroin, yaba, syabu, caffeine, a bottle of acid and drug processing equipment, he added.
He said the suspects then led police to a hotel here where they detained a 34-year-old man and seized heroin and syabu at about 8pm.
He added they also led police to a premises at Air Itam at about 10pm where ketamine and syabu were seized.
He said the amount of heroin seized in the raids was about 1.3kg while the syabu was about 890gm.
"The value of the drugs seized is about RM120,000," he told a press conference today, adding police also seized a car, a branded watch, jewellery and cash, all totalling RM592,150.
He said the trio have been operating for about the past two months and investigators were now tracing the source of the drugs.
Checks showed they have records for previous drug offences and tested positive for drug abuse, he said.
"They have been remanded until Aug 14 to assist investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added.
