Police believe slain gang leader may have been killed by his own men

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are in the midst of investigating if the hit on a underworld gang leader who was shot dead in an ambush by two gunmen in Setapak Sentral last month was the work of his own gang members.
Investigators are checking if a leadership tussle of the banned Satu Hati Gang following the murder of its earlier 41-year-old leader known as Suriya in January had led to the killing of 43-year-old V. Kandasamy on July 27.
Kandasamy who is known among his circle of friends as Kanna and had played second fiddle to Suriya had taken over the leadership of the the Satu Hati Gang after he death of his boss.
However, seeing him helm the gang did not go down well with several of his fellow members.
Soon after, the victim decide to lay low and went into hiding on learning there was a hit contract put on him.
It was not until recently did he decided to come out in the open after getting tired of being holed up in hiding and looking over his shoulder constantly.
Investigators are also looking at the possibility of Kandasamy being killed by his arch rivals from the 36 Gang.
The victim who was killed in a hail of bullets fired by two gunmen who rode pillion on motorcycles was driving to a mall to meet an unknown individual.
The Satu Hati Gang is notorious for illegal activities including extortion and loan-sharking.
