Suasa Airlines cleared of wrongdoing: Aziz Kaprawi

PUTRAJAYA: The government has cleared Suasa Airlines of wrongdoing for using its aircraft to advertise for Mon Space Sdn Bhd.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the advertisement was legal and the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi on July 22 was approved by the Civil Aviation Department (DCA).
"There is nothing wrong with the advertisement, many other airlines including AirAsia do that as well. The investigation on other reports are still going on.
"At the moment we cannot conclude any wrongdoing until the investigation is complete, but DCA has cleared them as far as the advertisement is concerned," Ab Aziz told the press today.
An aircraft belonging to Suasa Airline bearing Mon Space liveries flew a non-commercial flight from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi on July 22, leading many to speculate if a new airline is operating without permission.
However, questions still remain on "Mon Space Sky Airlines" as no such company exists and Suasa Air was advertising for Mon Space Sdn Bhd.
On a related matter, Ab Aziz reiterated that Rayani Air should apply to fly again if it wishes to restart operations after the Aviation Commision (Mavcom) revoked its Air Service Licence (ASL).
"No problem (reconsidering Rayani Air's licence), but first they have to submit a new application," he told reporters today.
Rayani Air, Malaysia's first Syariah-compliant airline, had its ASL revoked after multiple complaints from consumers regarding delayed or cancelled flights, failure to refund, and alleged hand-written boarding passes.
Earlier Ab Aziz launched the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Cadets programme at SMK Putrajaya Precint 8 (1) in conjunction with 220 other schools nationwide.
He said the programme is part of the government's effort to reduce road fatalities by 50% and was jointly organised by the Transport and Education Ministries.
"On average, 18 people die from accidents daily, and about 6,700 people have lost their lives on the road in 2015. The number is consistent every year with minor variations," Ab Aziz said.
He said students can choose to be a JPJ Cadet as part of their co-curricular activities and learn about road safety and discipline.
Ab Aziz said students will then be exposed to road safety laws and discipline even before they become drivers or riders, and become role models of society.
