Sabah police seize almost RM500,000 in illegal gambling raids

KOTA KINABALU: Police confiscated RM469,431 in cash and gambling equipment in raids on illegal gambling activities in Sabah in the first seven months of this year.
Sabah CID chief, Datuk Salehuddin Abdul Rahman said the seizures involved online illegal gambling as well as lottery.
He said the total seizures comprised RM53,281.00 in cash as well as 507 units of tablets, laptops, computers and mobile phones.
According to Salehuddin, during the period, 349 people comprising gambling operators and players were nabbed at shophouses and residences in 216 raids.
"Apart from the laws under the open court, two persons were arrested under the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) during the period," he told reporters here today.
Among the suspects held in the raids were students.
According to Salehuddin, Kota Kinabalu district recorded the highest number of arrests relating to illegal gambling followed by Penampang, Tawau and Sandakan districts.
Meanwhile, Salehuddin said during the period Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd cut off electricity supply to 27 premises while the Sabah Water Department stopped supply to eight premises for being involved in illegal gambling. — Bernama
