Police arrest man over Setapak shooting (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained 34-year-old man today to assist in the investigations into the murder of a suspected Indian gang leader who was shot dead by gunmen in Setapak on July 27.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Rusdi Md Isa said today the man was picked up in Sentul at 1am to assist in the investigations of moneylender 43-year-old V. Kandasamy @ Kanna who was killed in a hail of bullets by two gunmen who waylaid his car near a mall in Setapak Sentral.
He said the man who has previous criminal records for causing hurt with a weapon and causing unintentional death is not a suspect but police hope he could shed light into the case.
Police believe the victim was a gang member of the Satu Hati Gang and his murder was linked to underworld activities.
"Our investigations are ongoing and we will announce our findings when the time comes." he said.
In a separate case on the botched robbery a petrol station in Setapak on Sunday where a Bangladeshi staff was shot and injured by a robber, Rusdi said police expect to arrest more people.
The robber was apprehended by passers-by and handed over to police. Another suspect who lent the man the revolver that was used in the case was also held soon after.
"We are checking on how many others had the second suspect lent his firearm and if they were involved in using it to commit crimes. More suspects will be picked up soon," Rusdi said.
On another case related to the attack on an elderly man by a group of men following a minor car accident near a Ramadan bazaar on Jalan Masjid India on July 5, Rusdi said police will seek the media's assistance in publishing photos of the suspected attackers if the ongoing efforts to track them down is futile.
"We will release the photos and seek public help if we are unable to find the men involved in the case," he said.
