TEMERLOH: Pahang Umno is preparing to mobilise its machinery to face the 14th general election (GE14) which is expected to be held soon, said State Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
He said state party leaders held a meeting last night and agreed that the party machinery started work immediately.
"The focus now is in facing GE14 and winning the hearts and minds of the people so that they will continue to support the Barisan Nasional (BN) although the date of the general election is still unknown," he said.
Adnan, who is also Pahang Mentri Besar said this at a friendly gathering to present the Village Extension Plan (PKR) at Kampung Desa Baru Purun near here, today.
Also present were Kuala Krau Member of Parliament Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said, Kerdau assemblyman Datuk Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad and Jenderak assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamad Haji Jaafar.
Adnan was commenting on a statement made by former Deputy Prime Minister Tun Musa Hitam who had predicted that the GE14 would be held much earlier though the government's term ends in 2018.
Musa reportedly said BN wanted to hold an early election before the new party led by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad gained a strong foothold, although he could foresee that the party would not succeed in GE14.
In addition, Adnan added that all Umno divisions in Pahang fully supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and the matter was noted in a party division meeting.
Commenting on the electronic-temporary occupation licence (e-LPS) project to address problems of encroachment in Cameron Highlands, Adnan said the state government welcomed the initiative taken by the federal government.
The use of the e-LPS system announced last Tuesday was to deal with the application of temporary occupation licence and overlapping permits apart from facilitating measures in monitoring and enforcement to prevent state revenue leakage through the Cameron Highlands District and Land Office. — Bernama
