PUTRAJAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam today handed over humanitarian aid worth RM800,000 to 127 recipients in need.
The aid donated by the government and from the MIC president's personal funds went to representatives of non-governmental organisations, temple managements as well as to individual recipients suffering from ailments that require long-term treatment and individuals wanting to continue their studies.
Subramaniam who is also MIC president, said the aid would allow the parties involved to resolve problems besides giving them the ability to increase revenue in addressing social issues due to lack of financial resources.
Speaking to reporters after the donation presentation ceremony here, he said that despite all the various assistance being provided, the Indian community still has to look out for itself and take advantage of every opportunity provided by the government to try to increase income.
The Indians must utilise the government's transformation process by venturing into areas that can increase their revenue, thus reducing social issues related to insufficient or lack of income, he said. — Bernama
