Four IS supporters hauled to court

GEORGE TOWN: Four people were hauled to court for supporting the Islamic State (IS) group today.
An unemployed man was charged with two counts of supporting IS at the magistrate court here.
Mohamad Saufi Ibrahim, 21, was accused of knowingly supporting IS activities through the Telegram app under the account "saufiibrahim".
He allegedly committed the offence at unit 600 A-1-14 of the Tanjung Bungah Apartment between March 25 and June 29.
The offence comes under the Penal Code where those convicted are liable to face a life prison term or a maximum 30 year prison sentence and a fine.
Those found guilty are also liable for forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used in connection with the commission of the offence.
On the second charge, Mohamad Saufi was accused of having in his possession terrorism related materials consisting of an IS sticker and two books. He was alleged to have committed the offence at about 3.15pm on July 15 at the same location and faces a maximum seven year jail sentence if convicted.
No plea was recorded and the court fixed Oct 4 for mention.
In IPOH, a former female security guard was charged with two counts of supporting IS activities at the magistrate's court here.
Zilah Tajuddin, 43, was slapped with two counts of supporting and uploading activities of the militant group through the Telegram app.
She allegedly committed the offence at house No: 79602, Jalan Chenderawasih, Kampung Dato Ahmad Said, Ipoh, between July 4 and July 18.
No plea was recorded from Zilah who faces a life prison term or a maximum 30 year prison term or with a fine.
DPP Fadhli Ab Wahab applied to the court to transfer the case to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Magistrate Suhaima Mohd Noor fixed Sept 20 to grant permission for the application.
Meanwhile, Bernama reports that in the Tapah magistrate's court, a self-employed man was also charged with supporting IS.
No plea was recorded from Zairosfitri Jainuddin Azhar, 24, when the charge was read to him.
He was alleged to have committed the offence between March 25 and June 30 in Chenderiang.
The court set Sept 20 for mention.
In SHAH ALAM, a trader was charged in the magistrate's court for four charges of possessing explosives and supporting IS activities.
Mohd Shaifful Shahril Ramli, 28, nodded his head when the charges were read to him but no pleas were recorded.
He was charged with supporting IS activities and uploading the groups activities using Telegram under the name of Putra Zulkarnain and Anonymous/Ananimous at No 3, Lorong Indah 1, Kampung Sri Indah B, Sungai Buloh, between March 25 and June 30, 2016. The court set Sept 20 for mention.
