GEORGE TOWN: Penang Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas today called on the state's DAP government leaders to strengthen the foundation built over the years to promote harmony and prosperity.
He hoped the good ties and cooperation between the state and the Federal Government can continue so that the state's development agenda can be implemented for the welfare of the state's people.
He also urged all quarters to refrain from being engaged in disagreements and not to exaggerate little things instead to always resolve matters through amicable means.
"Peace is a catalyst for sustainable progress and development. Therefore, once again I would like to stress that the prosperity that we enjoy is the responsibility of all parties, namely the government and people have an obligation to maintain it," he said at the conferring of the state awards ceremony here today in conjunction with his 78th birthday.
The ceremony saw 168 people receive medals and honours today. The Chief Imam of the National Mosque Tan Sri Sheikh Ismail Muhammad headed the honour's list alongside 1,222 other recipients and is the sole recipient of the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri award, which carries the title 'Datuk Seri'. — Bernama
