Don't play me for a fool, Teng warns party veterans

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow (pix) has warned party veterans not to play him for a fool over the General Election candidature list for the party.

He alleged certain quarters in the veterans wing tried to put in place their favoured candidates in the Jelutong parliamentary constituency when he was away on leave.

Teng said these quarters had tried to influence Jelutong division members to accept their proposed names.

He said the veterans only accepted the proposed nominees they favoured for the three state seats of Sungai Pinang, Datuk Keramat and Batu Lanchang, under the Jelutong parliamentary seat, and rejected other proposed candidates by the division.

"This move has been rejected by the Jelutong division while Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong has accepted the decision by the division," he said in his speech when opening the division AGM last night.

Teng did not name names but mentioned these persons were from Penang but are now staying in other states.

He chided them for claiming they were well-versed with the workings of the state chapter and pointed out that they have never participated in party activities nor contested in party elections.

"Stop playing politics with me because you do not even qualify to be my enemy," he added.
