MAS implements self-print baggage tags

SEPANG: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) today announced the implementation of self-print baggage tags for all its domestic and international flights from this Thursday.
Announcing this, MAS said this would make the passenger's travel experience more efficient.
"Passengers travelling on Economy Class will have to print the new baggage tags at check-in kiosks around the departure floor of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and self-tag their bags before proceeding to the baggage drop counters.
"However, this does not apply to flights to Dhaka and Kathmandu, where passengers will need to check in at dedicated counters on rows A17 and A18 at the KLIA," it said in a statement.
MAS said this initiative was in line with its strategy to leverage on technology to simplify and reduce time for check-in giving customers more ease and control over their travel experience.
"This is the first phase before MAS moves to introduce self-baggage drops expected in the fourth quarter of 2016,".
Together with ground services handler AeroDarat Sdn Bhd, MAS said it will continue to introduce new systems to modernise traveling and provide ease to passengers.
Many global airlines have since implemented this service to simplify the travel experience for passengers.
"With the new system, the check-in process from kiosks to baggage drop counters is expected to be significantly shorter.
"Passengers who check-in via web and mobile will also need to print their baggage tags at the 50 kiosks available," read the statement.
The national carrier said there will be instructions on the tag and standees around to educate passengers on the process.
A maximum of two printed baggage tags per passenger is allowed at the kiosk.
Economy Class passengers are allowed to check-in a maximum of two pieces of baggage weighing 30kg in total.
"Passengers are to ensure that they do not pack any dangerous goods in their check-in luggage like lithium batteries, e-cigarettes and power banks."
