Peng Soon to be rewarded RM100k for Rio performance

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysian mixed doubles player Chan Peng Soon is set to be rewarded at least RM100,000 for his efforts in the Rio Olympics.
The Penang lad was promised the reward by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who expressed his confidence that Chan and his partner, Goh Liu Ying, can bring home the gold medal.
"I am sure everyone in Penang and the whole of Malaysia is rooting for them to create history.
"No matter silver or gold, Penang will reward Peng Soon RM100,000. If you get gold, it will be even more," he added in a Facebook post.
The duo will face off against the Indonesian pair Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir in the final which is set for 11.30pm (Malaysian time) tonight.
Their way to the final saw them overcome Xu Chen and Ma Jin of China during the semifinal on Monday.
Malaysia is also assured of at least a silver in the badminton doubles for men after Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong defeated Chai Biao and Hong Wei of China in the semifinal match earlier today.
