AirAsia pledges support to cancer cause

SEPANG: AirAsia Berhad has once again partnered up with the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA) to help raise funds for the cancer patients and educate Malaysians on the perils of the illness.
For this year's #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign, the airline will contribute 10 sen of each flight booking made on www.airasia.com from 15 August - 16 September 2016 to MAKNA.
#AirAsiaMAKNA is a campaign initiated in 2015 and is part of the airline's long-term commitment to support MAKNA in their cause to help cancer patients who might not be able to afford the treatment.
AirAsia Berhad Chief Executive Officer Aireen Omar said with an alarming number of Malaysians suffering from cancer and it being the second leading cause of death in the country, they had adopted cancer awareness as one of their committed CSR project.
"In 2015, we raised close to RM200,000 via #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign and an additional RM65,000 via Travelling Beruang project," she said, adding that during the campaign they met cancer fighters to cancer survivors and the selfless.
MAKNA volunteers who showed them the importance of what they were doing.
This year we are inviting our guests to be part of the campaign – for one month, every booking made on our website will translate into support towards MAKNA," she added.
MAKNA general manager Farahida Mohd Farid said they were happy to partner with the low-cost carrier on the latest fundraising campaign.
"We appreciate their continued support to enable them to provide uninterrupted aid to cancer patients and to continue mobilising resources to help not just patients, but also their families, and high-risk groups. "
