Handphone repairer charged with causing death of 41-year-old man

GEORGE TOWN: A handphone repairer claimed trial at the Sessions Court today after he was charged with causing the death of a 41-year-old man last week.
M. Dharmanathan, 33, was accused of causing the death of S. Muniandi in a hit-and-run incident with the intention to kill at 2.18am on Aug 9 in Lebuh Leith here.
The charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder comes under the Penal Code and carries a maximum 30-year prison sentence and liable for a fine for those convicted.
Sessions Court Judge Ruslan Hamid set bail at RM20,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to report to the Penang police headquarters every Monday.
He also ordered the accused to surrender his passport to the court before fixing Sept 23 for mention.
Dharmanathan was represented by T. Tamil Salvan while DPP Nurul Huda Idris prosecuted.
