Unemployed man charged with grandmother's murder

KOTA TINGGI: An unemployed youth was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today in connection with the death of his grandmother at Felda Penggeli Timur here early this month.
Muhamad Hafizie Azmee, 19, was charged with the murder of Maimon Abdul Samad, 76, at a house in Jalan Biru 1, Felda Penggeli Timur, between 6am and 6.30pm last Aug 9.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death sentence upon conviction.
Muhamad Hafizie nodded after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Mazana Sinin, but no plea was recorded.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Suhaila Shafiuddin, while Muhamad Hafizie was unrepresented.
The court set Sept 26 for mention pending the chemist and post mortem reports.
The court also allowed an application by Suhaila for Muhamad Hafizie to be sent to Hospital Permai in Johor for psychiatric treatment to determine his state of mind and whether he is fit to stand trial. — Bernama
