PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's quality of putting national interest above personal considerations has won praise from delegates attending the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (Capam) 2016 conference.
Lesotho Institute of Public Administration and Management director-general Dr John Dzimba, who has observed closely Najib's leadership, even likened him to South Africa's icon the late Nelson Mandela.
Dzimba said Najib was a leader who built bridges and not divide the nation.
"This is the kind of leadership that we need to see in this era," he said after attending the opening ceremony of the biennial conference today at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here.
"To be honest, I think this is one of the most patriotic speeches I ever heard from a young man. His speech is from the heart and he's not just trying to be on the stage but he's the man who actually believes in what he says and what he does," Dzimba said.
Director-General of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation Office, Lagos State Government, Nigeria, Toba Otusanya said Najib's inspiring speech was an indication on how Malaysia had actually transformed into one of the best countries in the world.
He said Malaysia's National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) was a very good example of a new way of thinking and tackling problems, which other nations should emulate.
Director of Administration Office of the Kenyan President, Rogers Abok Hadao, said he believed many countries were keen to learn from Malaysia's development approaches for the benefit of their people.
"The main reason why some of us came to Malaysia is to see what Malaysia has done so far in its development. You can see the infrastructure and facilities. You look at the practices in term of reform in the public sector, public service and economy," he said.
Deputy Head of Trade Office of Russia in Malaysia, Sergei Zhurbin, a guest at the conference, said Malaysia had made great achievements in unveiling various innovation programmes for the country.
Malaysia previously hosted the Capam conference in 1998 and 2014. – Bernama
