KUALA LUMPUR: A five-year-old boy, missing since Aug 11 from his home in Jinjang, was found decapitated today at a hill slope at the Kemensah waterfalls near Zoo Negara.
A relative, who was arrested on Tuesday, led police to the recovery of Noor Amila Edrus Norsham's highly-decomposed body at 2pm.
The boy's limbs were bound and early findings by forensics police showed that his skull was also fractured.
Sentul police chief ACP R. Munusamy said Noor Amila was believed to have been murdered and dumped at the hill slope the same day he went missing.
Sources said preliminary findings revealed that the 26-year-old suspect, a Myanmar with permanent residence status, was desperate for cash and had allegedly abducted the victim for ransom.
The suspect is believed to have panicked and dropped the ransom plan after the boy's father, a lorry driver in his 60's, made a police report.
The father has nine children aged between one and 42, from his four wives.
"The victim was not from a wealthy family but we believe the suspect was desperation for money," said a source.
It is learnt that Noor Amila was a son of his father's fourth wife and was left in the care of the man's second wife on the day he went missing.
The boy was last seen at a surau at the Jinjang longhouse on Jalan Jinjang Utara.
A search was mounted by police and the victim's family but Noor Amila was nowhere to be found.
Days later, witnesses told investigators that they last spotted the boy getting into a car similar to that driven by the suspect, a car mechanic who owns a workshop.
Sentul police picked up the man and after two days of interrogation, he took police to Noor Amila's remains.
The boy's disappearance was also broadcast on the National Urgent Response Alert (NurAlert) and his photos were widely shared on social media to trace his whereabouts.
