PUTRAJAYA: Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera has achieved 25% of its target to develop 40,000 Bumiputera talents by 2020, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
This was achieved through the introduction of 117 programmes at a cost of RM206 million, he added.
Najib, who is chairman of the Yayasan Peneraju board of trustees, said this meant that the foundation had developed 10,000 Bumiputera talents under three core programmes, namely Peneraju Tunas, Peneraju Skil and Peneraju Profesional, as of August this year.
"Many graduates of the Yayasan Peneraju programmes have found jobs with a good income," he said at the 'Realisation of 40,000 Aspirations' event after chairing a meeting of the Yayasan Peneraju board of trustees here today.
Also present at the event were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and Second Finance Minister Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani.
Najib said he was impressed with the success of Mohd Zulfadly Abdul Razzaq, 26, of Perak who had been working as a welding technician for a salary of RM3,000 a month prior to joining the Peneraju Skil programme in 2014 with a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia certificate.
After completing a two-week training stint, Zulfadly was offered a job as a piping field engineer at an international oil and gas company for an average RM7,000 monthly salary, he said.

The Prime Minister said that by 2020, Yayasan Peneraju would have trained 30,000 people under the Peneraju Skil programme.
As of June 2016, the Peneraju Skil programme had implemented 63 programmes for 5,019 people involving benefits and investments totalling RM51.6 million, he said.
He said Yayasan Peneraju provided focus to academic funding, skills and professionalism.

Peneraju Tunas is an education funding programme for potential secondary and tertiary students from families with a household income of RM4,000 and below faced with the difficulty of acquiring quality secondary and tertiary education.
Peneraju Skil is a skills development programme to improve vocational and technical skills to the level of international recognition while Peneraju Profesional is a development programme for professional certification and for specialists.
Najib said Yayasan Peneraju highlighted efforts to bring into the mainstream the development and enhancing of Bumiputera talents through technical and vocational training, where 75% of the focus was given to skill-enhancing programmes.
Yayasan Peneraju was striving to draw more sponsors and partners for the programmes to realise the national agenda, he said, adding that funds were vital to ensure the continuity of Yayasan Peneraju programmes. — Bernama
