IGP: Dataran Merdeka off limits for #TangkapMalaysianOfficial1 rally

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) today reiterated that Dataran Merdeka is off limits for the #TangkapMalaysianOfficial1 rally on Aug 27 if City Hall (DBKL) does not give permission for the venue to be used.
He said police will consider allowing the rally to be held at other venues if the organisers are willing to change their location.
"If DBKL disapproves of the location, we will not allow the rally to proceed. However, if the organisers decide to change the location, we will consider," he told reporters at the Senior Officers Mess, here today.
He said the organisers still have the time to change their application which must be submitted to the police 10 days prior to the rally.
The rally is being organised by youth and student coalitions who are targeting some 10,000 participants to join them in pressuring the authorities to arrest and charge "Malaysian Official 1".
Ten civil societies group have also declared their support for the upcoming #TangkapMO1 rally.
They are Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0), Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4), Pusat Komas, Lawyers for Liberty, National Human Rights Society of Malaysia (Hakam), Association of Women Lawyers (AWL), Sister's in Islam (SIS), Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) and Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (EMPOWER).
