KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah today called on more public companies listed in Bursa Malaysia, as well as private companies which made millions of ringgit in profit each year, to contribute to the Warriors' Fund.
He said this in response to the Armed Forces Veteran Association's remark that the fund had failed to receive the desired response from the public.
"The amount of donations collected from individuals or companies in the country proves that the level of public appreciation towards security forces personnel, especially their deeds and contributions for the country, is still very low.
"As such, it is important for the public to be made aware of the importance of giving meaningful appreciation to the deeds and sacrifices of security personnel who had done so much to ensure that the people are able to enjoy peace
and harmony in the country.
"The movement to enhance public awareness on the matter must also begin at school right up to the tertiary level," he said at the 35th Royal Commissioning Ceremony of the Public Universities Reserve Officers Training Unit (ROTU) Cadet
Officers here today.
Also present were Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim and Armed Forced chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin.
A total of 1,675 ROTU cadet officers, 901 of whom were women, from 18 public universities nationwide were commissioned at the event.
It is the largest Royal Commissioning ceremony in ROTU's history since 1982, involving 1,173 army cadet officers, 205 navy cadet officers and 297 air force cadet officers. — Bernama
