Strength of Besut Umno, exemplary model and inspiration to all

BESUT: The strength and excellent performance of Besut Umno in the last general election should be an exemplary model and inspiration for other Umno divisions to bounce back from their dismal performances.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek (pix) said unity, sincerity and focus of the Besut Umno had enabled them to be the last bastion which gave a major impact to Terengganu Umno to continue to lead the state.
"Congratulations to Besut Umno. When I represented Kemaman Umno division, I regarded Kemaman as the strong bastion of Umno in Terengganu.
"When the wave of PAS swept down from Kelantan, we felt that if Terengganu falls, other states will follow. The last bastion is Kemaman due to its unbeaten record except in 1999. Kemaman then regained its strength when Datuk Seri
Idris Jusoh returned to lead Terengganu Umno.
"In the last general election, from the four state seats and one parliamentary seat contested in Kemaman, we lost one. So, we should be proud of our bastions in Besut and Setiu for winning all their five seats," he said when
opening the Besut Umno delegates' meeting here today.
Also present were Besut Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, who is also Umno Supreme Council member, Besut Umno chief Nawi Mohammad, Jerteh assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Pehimi Yusof, Kota Putera assemblyman Mohd Mahdi Musa and Kuala Besut assemblyman Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman.
Ahmad Shabery, who is also Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, said Umno should think of new ways or approach to ensure the party remained relevant in the country. — Bernama
