Malaysia's transformation initiatives take the leap beyond its shores

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) takes the leap beyond its shore as countries express interest to emulate it at the just concluded NBOS International Week on Saturday.
Malaysia's transformation programme via NBOS, such as the Urban Transformation Centre, 1Malaysian Training Centres and MyBeautiful Malaysia took the limelight, where countries such as Lesotho, Kenya, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ukraine, Maldives as well as Nepal wanted to replicate them.
The brainchild of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, NBOS has seen 90 joint projects between ministries and agencies to create high impact solution, low cost and rapid execution since its implementation in 2009.
The NBOS initiatives, a multi-ministry and multi-agency collaborative effort, is in line with the national transformation agenda.
Chief Secretary to the Malaysian Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said Malaysia has proven that NBOS was successfully implemented in the country that benefited Malaysians of all walks of life, making it an inclusive programme.
Ali added that the excursion visit to UTC, Community Rehabilitation Programme (CRP) centre and Permata Kurnia autism centre for the participants during the week has given the delegates a hands-on experience.
"We have received overwhelming response from the delegates. Seeing is believing. We will continue to showcase our initiatives and best practices on public administration to the world," he told Bernama.
In conjunction with the NBOS International Week from Aug 14-20, various programmes were held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), including the International Conference on Blue Ocean Strategy (ICBOS), NBOS Open Day and the 2016 Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (Capam) Biennial Conference.
He said delegates were very happy and impressed with the line up of speakers and speeches at the conferences.
Malaysia was given the honour to host the Capam biennial conference, twice in a row, after successfully organising the event in 2014.
At the Capam board of directors meeting held Friday, Ali was unanimously re-elected as the President of Capam for the 2016-2018 term, making him the first person in the association's history to hold the post for two terms.
On his mission and vision for the next two years, Ali said more transformation would be carried out to improve the way Capam is managed.
"For this new term, the Capam board of directors now has representatives from all continents. We will continue to learn and work together, and exchange ideas and best practices as a Commonwealth family as well as an international community," he said.
The Capam sessions statement delivered at the end of the three-day conference, said that Malaysia's model of reinventing its public services was a key "take away" for the 800 participants.
Among others, it stated that the practice of innovation and continuous networking should be enhanced among member countries. — Bernama
