GEORGE TOWN: Banners calling for Seremban MP Anthony Loke to be Penang Chief Minister, purportedly put up by DAP Mount Erskine branch, have been condemned as fake by branch chairman D. Dayalan Kandiah.
He said several such banners urging for the party organising secretary to head the Penang government were found statewide since last Saturday.
He described what happened as "gutter politics" and stressed his branch was loyal to the party leadership.
Those who had the banners printed and put up were cowards and wasting their time and money, he added.
"Instead, they should be more focused on helping and fulfilling the needs of the people," he told a press conference today after lodging a police report at the Northeast district police headquarters here.
The Penang Chief Ministership is under the spotlight after incumbent Lim Guan Eng was charged for graft and abuse of power in June with critics calling for him to go on leave or resign.
The DAP and parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH) however have since endorsed Lim to continue to lead the state administration.
Dayalan said his branch was being targeted as they were very active in getting state assistance for the people.
"I think people do not like what we are doing so they are doing this to create problems," he said, adding many of the banners have been removed by the Penang Island City Council and party members.
