KUALA LUMPUR: A former medical officer was charged in the Sessions Court today with three sexual offences, including outraging the modesty, of a 56-year-old cleaner at a government hospital.
Ahmad Ahnaf Kamarulizham, 31, claimed trial to all the charges before Sessions judge Shamsudin Abdullah.
On the first charge, he is alleged to have committed sexual connection with a woman by using an object, without her consent.
The offence, under Section 377CA of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and liable to whipping, on conviction.
He also faces an optional charge of using criminal force with the intention to outrage the modesty of the same woman.
The charge, under Section 354 of the Penal Code, is punishable with a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine or whipping or any of the two, on conviction.
Ahmad Ahnaf faces a further charge of committing an act of gross indecency and the offence, under Section 377D, is punishable with a jail term of two years, on conviction.
He is alleged to have committed all the offences at a room "L4-PA-07", which had the "breastfeeding babies" symbol, at the fifth floor of a specialist complex building of a government hospital, between 10.30am and 11.30am on March 18, 2015.
Prosecuting officer ASP Muhamad Sapri Yaakub did not suggest any bail.
Ahmad Ahnaf's lawyer, Fahmi Abd Moin, said the charge is non-bailable but asked the judge to use his discretion to allow bail for the accused.
He said the accused is married with two children and the wife is six months' pregnant.
He added the accused was working as a medical officer at the hospital and had resigned in November, 2015.
Currently, the accused has no permanent job and his wife, who is also a medical officer, is the sole breadwinner, he said, adding that the wife has chronic health problem in relation to joint pain, which restricts her physical movement.
Fahmi also said the accused has seven siblings and three of them are still schooling. "The court can impose additional orders," said Fahmi and asked for RM8,000 bail for the accused.
Judge Shamsudin granted RM12,000 bail with one surety and ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station, once a month and fixed Sept 28, 2016, to exchange documents.
