Six friends charged in court for murder

SHAH ALAM: Six friends were charged in the Magistrate's Court today over the murder of a teenager during a rioting incident in Bukit Jelutong here, earlier this month.
The accused, Mohamad Nazar Kasin, 32, B. Shandru, 32, S. Yunusraj, 26, D. Vikram, 24, K. Ganeswaren, 33, and K. Madhavan, 23, all of whom are unemployed, were charged with murdering R. Dhevar, 19.
All the accused nodded in acknowledgment when the charge was read out to them by a court interpreter before Magistrate Raja Noor Adila Raja Mahyaldin, but no plea was recorded.
The six were charged with committing the offence in front of the guard house of the Maplewoods residences in Saujana, Bukit Jelutong, here between 2.22am and 2.30am on Aug 7.
They were charged under Section 149 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 302 of the same Code, which provides for the mandatory death sentence, if convicted.
Raja Noor Adila set Sept 22 for mention of the case.
At another Magistrate's Court, five of the accused were also charged with rioting and possessing machetes, sticks, 'fork locks' and helmets used as weapons in another incident on Aug 7.
According to the charge, Mohamad Nazar, Shandra, Yunusraj, Vikram, and Madhavan allegedly committed the offence along with 11 other men at the junction of Kampung Muhibbah-Kampung Melayu Subang, at about 1.40am.
All the men pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 148 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to five years, or a fine, or both, if convicted.
Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin set bail at RM3,000 for each accused with one surety, and fixed Sept 22 for mention of the case.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Ahmad Marzuqi Ibrahim handled both the cases. — Bernama
