PM Najib officially launch Light Rail Transit Line 3

SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today officially launched the Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) project.
Najib said the project will be able to transport more passengers compared to other modes of transportation available in Western Klang Valley at the rate of 36,720 passengers per direction per hour.
"I have to thank the Selangor government for letting the project's alignment to be approved here,"
"Although we have differences in other issues, but in upholding the people's interest, we must deliver," Najib said when delivering his speech at the opening ceremony held at Stadium Malawati here.
Also present was Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Prasarana Group Chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.
LRT3 is a 36km-long line to link Bandar Utama to Johan Setia (Klang), with 25 stations via elevated and underground train lines. The project is expected to be completed by Aug 31, 2020 and will serve over two million people along the alignment by year 2025.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd who is the project owner of the RM9 billion LRT3 is planning to start construction by first quarter of next year.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd owns and manages the current LRT line.
Meanwhile, Najib announced that starting from this year Malaysia Day (Sept 16), commuters traveling on the Rapid KL LRT and Monorail Networks would be accorded a 50% discount between 6am and 7am.
This initiative is aimed to ease the congestion at peak hours on the LRT and Monorail lines.
