PETALING JAYA: The launch of the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) line today will serve to improve accessibility to commuters in Klang, Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya via 26 stations according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pix).
"The 37km alignment will connect an expected population of two million in the west corridor of Klang Valley by the year 2020," he said at the launch of the LRT3 today.
He said that this is an initiative by the government to encourage the use of public transportation.
"Other initiatives include the capacity increase for the existing Kelana Jaya and Ampang LRT lines, the GO KL free bus services, the Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), the LRT extension project, and the soon to be operational Mass Rapid Transit Line 1 (MRT1)," said Liow.
He added that these projects have increased the modal share of urban public transportation from 10% in 2009 to 20% by the end of 2015 with a target of 40% by 2030.
