MALACCA: Two civil servants were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today for attempting to bribe a police officer who caught the men gambling at an illegal gaming den in the city centre here.
The civil servants were among 16 people engrossed in playing the gaming machines and placing bets when a police team raided the place at night.
Seven of the gamblers including the civil servants pleaded to be let off and attempted to bribe a police inspector between RM350 and RM500.
However, they were promptly arrested and handed over to state MACC officers.
Police seized 74 computers, modems, closed-circuit cameras and about RM200.
The caretaker of the place, a Bangladeshi, was also held after he failed to produce valid travel documents and a work permit.
The raid was conducted jointly with other enforcement agencies including the MACC under an anti-illegal gaming operation codenamed Ops Dadu.
