Sanjeevan re-arrested for falsifying academic certificates

KUALA LUMPUR: Non-governmental organisation myWatch chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan was re-arrested today over a cheating case and is expected to be charged in court for the alleged offence today.
Federal police commercial crimes investigations department director (CCID) Commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said Sanjeevan was held for allegedly using falsified academic certificates fraudulently.
"He had claimed having two degrees from two universities in the UK (United Kingdom)," he said.
It is learnt that he had allegedly used the false academic papers to seek employment as a consultant of a company in 2013.
He was hired but eventually dismissed by his employer after six months.
His employer lodged a police report last year claiming he had paid Sanjeevan RM95,000 in salaries.
The businessman also alleged that Sanjeevan had produced certificates claiming he had a law degree and another in business studies from from foreign universities.
Since his arrest on June 23 for allegedly blackmailing and extorting an illegal gaming operator, Sanjeevan spent over a month in remand for various offences, including extortion, cheating and hiring an illegal immigrant.
He was subsequently detained under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) which his lawyers succeeded in overturning and setting him free on July 26.
Since his release, he has been charged thrice for extortion and hiring an illegal immigrant.
