Police nab trio, seek another after car chase

GEORGE TOWN: The police arrested three of four youths following a chase involving the suspects in one car and four patrol cars near Batu Uban early today.
The driver of the car, believed to have been injured when the police fired in the direction of the vehicle, has gone into hiding.
The case is investigated for attempted murder.
Northeast District police chief, ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said in the 3.30am incident, policemen in two patrol cars spotted four people in a Proton Iswara Aeroback behaving suspiciously.
"The police flagged down the car in an attempt to conduct a check but the driver accelerated, resulting a chase until the Jelutong industrial area.
"The patrol cars blocked the car, only to be rammed by the Aeroback which was in turn, blocked by another two patrol cars which arrived at the scene.
"The police ordered the car driver and occupants to surrender but the man drove away, forcing the policemen to fire several shots in the direction of the vehicle," he said.
Mior Faridalathrash said with the help of other patrol cars, the police later found the Aeroback abandoned near the Serina Bay Apartment where the three suspects, comprising a man and two women were detained.
"The car driver who escaped is believed to have been injured as there were blood stains on the driver's seat," he said, adding the car was believed to have been stolen in Jelutong.
Meanwhile, a resident at nearby Solok Sungai Pinang here said she was shocked to find the Aeroback riddled with bullets.
"When I opened the door about 5.30am, I was surprised to find so many policemen near my house. I hope everything is settled now and the bad guys are caught," said the woman who wished to be known only as Dewi. — Bernama
