PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall senior officer with the "Datuk Seri" title arrested recently by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged misuse of power and bribery was found to have owned 31 condominium units valued at RM15.5 million.
This revelation has put the city hall on edge.
Apart from looking into the possible involvement of other officials in corruption and reviewing its internal workings, city hall is also scrutinising all developers it has dealings with, China Press reported today.
This aside, city hall has directed all its officers to declare their assets, the report said.
A city hall source said all senior officers must update their personal particulars and declare their assets by Friday.
Mayor Datuk Seri Amin Nordin Abd Aziz did not give a direct answer when asked by the daily how the arrested "Datuk Seri" came to own 31 condominium units.
He only said city hall will give full cooperation to MACC in its investigation.
He also declined to comment when asked whether MACC officials had called on him or other city hall officials.
Amin Nordin said city hall has taken various measures to strengthen its internal mechanisms and raise the levels of trustworthiness and integrity of its officers.
He said city hall had directed all senior officers and staff to declare or update information on their assets.
It has also formed a committee to assess whether the assets declared commensurate with their salaries, he added.
Meanwhile, MACC investigations director Datuk Azam Baki said it will summon the developers which allegedly repurchased from the "Datuk Seri" the 31 condominium units at about double the price they sold to him.
However, he did not said how many developers are believed to be involved.
It has been reported that some city hall officers were suspected to be abusing their power to gain windfall.
A source said MACC discovered that the "Datuk Seri" bought the condominium units from as low as RM200,000 and RM300,000 each by using only his name when signing the sale and purchase agreement, and sold them back to the developers for about RM500,000 each upon completion.
