KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak police seized seven firearms registered under a "Datuk" believed to be a wanted figure in connection with the murder of Miri PKR division secretary, Bill Kayong.
Sarawak CID chief, SAC Datuk Dev Kumar M.M. Sree Shunmugam said the task force established to probe the case confiscated a Glock pistol, a Ruger Ranch rifle (.233) and five shotguns on Wednesday.
"The two-hour operation which began at 10.40am saw the police seize seven firearms registered under Datuk Stephen Lee Chee Kiang at his house in Taman Tanjung Lubang here yesterday.
He said the firearms seized were not used in the murder of Kayong on June 21.
"The investigators also seized 623 live bullets, including 206 shotgun bullets and a GFL 9MM Luger bullet.
"Although none of the weapons seized were connected to the case involving the slain activist, police are taking precautionary measures since the wanted person is still on the run," Dev Kumar added.
He said Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor is in the midst of revoking the licence issued to Lee for the pistol and rifle.
Dev also said police will write to the Miri district office to cancel the pump gun licence issued to Lee.
It is learnt that police are still waiting for information from Interpol on the latest location of the suspect who is believed to be still in Australia.
Kayong was gunned down at a traffic light intersection near a supermarket on Jalan Miri-Bintulu near here at 8.20am on June 21.
