Customs Dept prosecute three Negri Sembilan companies for GST offences
SEREMBAN: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department in Negri Sembilan has prosecuted three companies for committing offences under the GST Act.
State director Datuk Abdullah Jaafar said the companies were charged in court for failing to submit their returns and for making false claims for refund.
"Another 21 companies will be charged in court soon for not paying GST and failure to submit the GST 03," he said here today.
He said the department would not compromise with companies that had committed GST fraud.
According to him, 12,940 traders in Negri Sembilan had already registered under GST, and the department was identifying those who have not done so.
On traders and the public's comprehension of GST, he said some were still a little confused about the system but the number was not as many as when it was implemented in April 2015.
"The reports we received in the last six months are lesser compared to when the system was first implemented. This means that understanding of GST among the public is very good," he said. — Bernama
