GEORGE TOWN: A woman who was killed after a crane part fell on her car earlier this week will be laid to rest in her favourite dress.
This was revealed by Chin Khoon Ying, 26, the brother of Khoon Sing, 24, who died in the Thursday evening tragedy.
He said his sister only wore the white dress once, which was during the wedding of a cousin brother in May this year.
"We told her she looked so pretty in the dress and she did not have the heart to wear it again.
"She always wanted to dress up like a bride and we used to joke about it," he said when reporters met him at the wake today held at the Gat Lebuh Nordin funeral parlour.
Khoon Sing who was on her way to visit her family in Klang after work died during the 7.15pm incident at Jalan Raja Chulan in Kuala Lumpur.
A stop work order has since been issued against the construction site while the crane operator was reported to have gone missing.
Recalling happier times, Khoon Ying, who was holding back tears throughout, said his sister was a kind soul who cared deeply for her family.
He said she possessed a sharp wit which she would often use to cheer up those who were feeling sad.
"She was also a very filial and independent girl (who) gave no worries to our parents nor asked money from them," he added.
The actor said the family decide to have the last rites conducted in Penang as they grew up in the state.
"Here (Gat Lebuh Nordin) was where my grandparents used to stay, this place has lots of memories," he added.
Khoon Ying however declined to discuss the possibility of legal action taken by the family.
"My family believes this is not the right time to talk about such matters, I want to concentrate on giving my sister a good send-off.
"We will only discuss this after everything is completed," he said, adding that his parents and 11-year-old brother were devastated by the demise of Khoon Sing.
The hearse leaves about 10am on Monday for the Batu Gantung Crematorium and her remains will be interred at Kek Lok Si in Air Itam here.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh urged authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter.
The question of whether safety regulations were adhered to must be seriously investigated as a breach would attract not only civil liability, but also criminal consequences, he said.
"We can ill afford a similar incident occurring again and I hope action is not only taken against the culprits behind this tragedy but also taken to prevent the same from occurring again," he added.
